Joy Ruppert
Co-teen leader, Voicing Opinions

Joy is a junior at San Dieguito Academy in San Diego, California. She is a student activist who is passionate about improving and creating a more diverse and accepting community for her generation. Adopted from China, and raised in Encinitas, Joy understands the different voices of her community. As GenUps North County Coastal Director, Diversify Our Narrative SDUHSD Director of Research, and SDA’s M.A.C Co-President she is determined to make sure that youth of every background feel heard, welcomed, and represented within their school/school district. Ever since she was young she has always been interested in human rights. She found it inspiring that youth had the power to change the world, especially in unity. Outside of school Joy is a student advocate and leader in the push for ethnic studies within her school district where she organizes protests, meetings, webinars, and email templates for fellow youth to send to the district. After winning first place at a county level in microbiology and environmental science and second in state for environmental science, Joy is also involved in the Student Leadership Board for the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair. Joy is also the Secretary of the Carlsbad-Encinitas Chapter for the International Lions Association and the Co-Leader of the Encinitas for Equality Youth Committee.
